Fall Classes start this week and New Studio coming in November!

Fall classes start this week for our existing students.  Our new beginner class will start this coming Monday (9 Sept). We are also very excited for the new studio. The new address is in Bel Drive Plaza just north of Bel Air Plaza on 120th Street between Pacific and Center. For students coming on the interstate there’s great access from either the Pacific or Center Street exits on I-680. The build out on the new space has begun in earnest and flooring will be ordered this week.  The move in date is schedule for 1 November. We’ll keep you up to date with pictures as the transformation takes place.  The new space will be a big step up for the Academy’s students. The flooring will be a proper dance floor. While the hardwood floor in the current space did its job well, we are looking forward to having Marley-like product down.  We will also have 2 dance studios in the new space and a lobby with monitors so parents can watch classes.  The larger of the two studios will give us more space to dance. The smaller space will be perfect for smaller classes and privates.

Steppin’ Up our Game!

We did great at the Two Rivers Feile in Des Moines.  The Dowds Irish Dance success will continue.  We are adding classes on Monday night to help our students be their best.  There are two new classes on Monday.  One class is geared to our younger students at Novice/Prizewinner level and an additional class for the older, more experienced students dancing at the Prizewinner and PC level.  Let’s get ready for the upcoming feiseanna and blow the Irish dance socks off the competition!   We have also added a show class on Thursdays for our upcoming performances.  Getting excited for the Greeley Irish Festival and the Holy Cross Irish Festival!

Fall Classes Coming Soon! Open Houses In August

Fall is just around the corner and kids will be returning to school.   Our fall classes in Omaha start on 4 September and in Lincoln on Sunday, 8 September.  Open houses in Omaha will be on Saturday, 17 August and again on 24 August from 3 – 5pm at our studio located at 3015 North 90th Street.  You can meet Marty, ask questions and meet some of the great people of the Dowds Irish Dance family.

Summer Workshop Schedule out NOW

As we write this blog post the snow is falling so it’s hard to believe summer is coming soon.  We are in the process of working on summer Dowds Irish Dance Academy workshops for new students/beginners.  The workshops are a fun introduction to Irish dance.  They are one week in length and cover some basics of Irish step dancing.  A summer workshop is a great low cost way for you to see if your child might like Irish dance.  Let us know if you are interested by emailing us at  The new schedule is out now.  Click on the following link to access the registration form and schedule –  Summer Workshop Flyer 2013 .  You can also view it on our Facebook page.

Holidays Breaks

Just a reminder about the holiday schedule.  We are on break on Thanksgiving and the day after (22 and 23 November).  For Christmas and New Years we are on break from Christmas Eve (24 December) through Friday, 4 January.  Classes will resume on Saturday 5 January.  Get ready to work after the Christmas/New Year’s Break.  We are on the short road to the St. Louis Feis and, of course, St. Patrick’s Day!

Marty Dowds is now a TCRG and Dowds Irish Dance is a CLRG certified school

Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa have a new choice when looking for a certified Irish dance school.  Marty Dowds, former Riverdance lead dancer and winner of multiple international Irish dance competitions, has passed his TCRG exam (acryonym for the Irish – Teagascóir Choimisiúin le Rinci Gaelacha – Commission Certified Irish Dance Teacher).  A rigorous multi-day exam it ensures that you are receiving quality dance instruction.  Passing the TCRG exam also means that Dowds Irish Dance Academy is now a “TCRG certified school” with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG) (Irish Dance Commission).  What does this mean to students and parents?  Students can now compete at Irish dance competitions.  Something we have been anxiously awaiting.  It’s a great opportunity for our students and offers a healthy competitive environment for students to push themselves further than they might have without competition.

Open house in Omaha will be Saturday August 4th and August 11th from 2-4pm.  Come, visit, ask about our classes, enjoy cake pops while they last and register for fall classes.  For Lincoln open house is Sunday August 12th from 2-4pm at Club Kicks located at 4820 Rent Worth Drive.  Cake pops there too!!!  Look forward to seeing you soon.  FALL CLASSES BEGIN IN OMAHA ON 22 AUG AND IN LINCOLN ON 26 AUG!

Beginning in June Marty is holding beginner summer classes.  Each session is one week long running for 2 hours each day.  The cost for the week is $120.  The classes are held at the studio located at 3015 North 90th Street in Omaha.  We are busy trying to upload the registration form to the website, but you can always call to find out more or to register.  The dates and times are as follows:

So many great shows this week and many opportunities to see the dancers perform.  We had a great post-parade party on Saturday and a wonderful recital.  The parents and their support of the school is awesome!  So glad the kids had a chance to show their parents how much their hard work has paid off!  If you are interested in joining the Academy or would like to try a class you can either call or fill out our registration for online or just show up for a class and give it a FREE try.
